This was delayed to try and get the wc fixes that have been languishing on the branch included (and also to get the buildbots fixed). I've gotten all that merged today but 1.8.x-r1536931 and 1.8.x-issue4437 required syncup merges to resolve some spurious conflicts in op-depth-test.c (we've made a lot of changes there since those branches were made). If someone can look over that to see if there's anything that stands out as wrong it would be appreciated. CHANGES could also use someone looking over it for proofreading purposes. I intend to roll the tarballs tomorrow morning US/Pacific time.
