Hi Patrick.  As you noted in your original post below, it's already in our 
issue tracker.  The issue contains links to an email thread where a bit of 
discussion and a tentative patch were made earlier, presumably unresolved / 
unfinished.


I suppose the consensus is that it's an enhancement request that's perceived to 
be of non-zero utility (enough that someone bothered to enter an issue 
requesting it and nobody has marked it "won't fix") but has not been discussed 
much and has not made it onto anyone's radar recently.

If you or your customer find it of greater importance, perhaps explaining why 
it's important would help to revive it or help us to set its priority 
appropriately?
