But why should we, as an open source project that only ships source code, worry about this? It sounds like a job for the folks that package binaries, either via OS package management systems or the various other binary providers around. If the solution you suggest is "ship several versions of the libraries in the same binary," it just doesn't feel like something we should do (or worry about, frankly). -Hyrum
