Cheng Pan and I are discussing updating the PR template to use “Assisted-by”
instead of “Generated-by”.

ASF policy allows us to choose our own git commit trailer to indicate AI
involvement; “Generated-by” and “Co-authored-by” are their suggestions, but we
prefer “Assisted-by”.

Speaking for myself (perhaps Cheng agrees with this rationale as well), I
prefer “Assisted-by” because it leaves authorship squarely with the human
submitting the patch. Apache's licensing terms notwithstanding, code authorship
implies some form of responsibility, and an AI agent cannot be responsible
<https://x.com/bumblebike/status/832394003492564993/photo/1> for anything. Only
a human can. “Assisted-by” communicates this clearly, whereas “Generated-by”
and “Co-authored-by” do not.

Perhaps in 5-10 years (or less!) we will look back on this idea as quaint and
outdated, but for now it holds. I propose we update our PR template accordingly.
