Hi, currently only very few developers are actively working on Apache POI, thus it is mostly in maintenance-only mode and there are likely no major improvements coming unless someone steps in and contributes functionality/improvements (accompanied by a good set of unit-tests to keep the feature working in the future!).
So if you can contribute, it can get integrated and included in future versions. Regards... Dominik.
