I'm ambivalent on this issue, as see our web sphere environment (at my $DAYJOB at a big insurance company) languish around on IBM JDK 1.5 / 1.6 ... and I guess that's a common problem. On the other hand the projects usually still stick with POI 3.9, so it doesn't matter.
It looks like Tika already moved to JDK 1.7 [1] - so this should be ok for them. So I'm "0" on this issue. Andi.
