A week or so ago, Andreas Beeker did some work on the NPOIFS write
support. This inspired me to spend some time over the weekend on it too,
which included a large number of unit tests, and very few code changes -
the code was closer than I'd thought!
I believe that NPOIFS now has full write support, offering full feature
parity with POIFSFileSystem, along with a few new features like in-place
change and in-place updating of streams! I've hopefully updated the POIFS
docs on the website with all of this
So, it would be great if people could give it a whirl, and report if there
are any problems with it. If everything behaves, we can look at changing
the HxxF document classes to use NPOIFS for their writes in the near
future, so everyone can benefit from the lower memory and better
performance of NPOFS
