Ben and I talked this over offline and came to the following conclusion. This could potentially be a disruptive change, but we do want to encourage users to use active-backup instead of SLB in general. For now, we will update NEWS indicating that we intend to switch to active-backup as a default. In addition, we will warn users that this change is coming when they fail to explicitly set a bond mode. Once a release or two have passed, we can make the change knowing that people have been properly warned.
