Hi Kai,

Good to hear from you. I am most interested in contributing to the core sdk of
OO.o. On the application side, I am torn --ideally, I'd like to contribute to
all applications in the suite. As I mentioned, my background is mostly C++, but
I also program in Java and C#. Having written software on Windows most of my
working life, I am also familiar with the Win32 API and COM.

For now I will go with your suggestion of finding a project that interests me
most, and perhaps initiating a conversation with the project lead.

If you, or anyone in the community, have any more helpful suggestions, I'd
welcome them.

Thanks for your comments,

-Rohit

Hi Rohit and welcome to the community! :-)

To get you up to speed, what type of work are you interested in? Is there
any specific area that gets you fired up? There is a lot of interesting work in
OO.o for someone with your general background, so more specific information
might help everyone suggest more precise alternatives.

More specifically, once you have figured out what general part you are
interested in I suggest taking a look at the projects list:
http://projects.openoffice.org/accepted.html . When you find something cool
check out issuezilla to find issues related to that and/or contact the project
lead for more guidance in a specific area.

Good starting points are also the FreeNode IRC channels: #OpenOffice.org and
#go-oo.

And you can also fire emails to random community members who seem to be
working on something that interests you. :-)

Take care and stay in touch,

   Kai
