Footer is different from footnotes. Please make sure that footer is what you want. In that case just go to Insert -> Footer -> Default. This will show an empty rectangle at the bottom of each page, it shoudlnt have any numbering unless you want to insert a page number by selecting Insert -> Fileds -> Others -> Page #
For a more advanced use of footers, I recomend reading this tutorial: http://openoffice.blogs.com/openoffice/2009/07/the-simplest-approach-to-the-most-reliable-way-to-have-no-page-number-on-the-first-page-in-openoffic.html On Sat, Oct 11, 2014 at 4:25 PM, gary lenderman < garylender...@yahoo.com.invalid> wrote: > I am writing a book and am using Open Office Writer. > When I insert a footer and put the number "1" in the footer of the 1st page > the number "1" comes up again on the 3d, 5th, 7th.... pages. > Is there some way that I can disable whatever is causing it to do that? > > Thank You, > Gary Lenderman -- Alexandro Colorado Apache OpenOffice Contributor 882C 4389 3C27 E8DF 41B9 5C4C 1DB7 9D1C 7F4C 2614
