Hi Raphael, I’ve tested it on OS X 10.9.1 (Java version 1.6.0_65[build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609] - from Apple.com) and LO 4.2.1 (RC1) and 4.2.2 (RC2) both 64bit but I cannot confirm your observation. For me everything works – even this functionality does not depend on check/uncheck LO "Preferences–>Advanced–>Use Java runtime environment" feature. Even if you haven’t installed Java on your Mac OS X notify you about instalation Java.
Could you describe your configuration (type of your Mac, version of Mac OS X and version of Java)? Simple test if you have Java installad: Open Terminal.app, type "java -version" (without quotes). If you haven’t installed Java, OS X notify you (show dialog) otherwise you can see version of installed Java.
