Over Christmas i was able to build the AOO 4.0.1 on my 10.5 Mac. So I

much, if the AOO 4.0.x LTS is officialy supported or not. If it's not
offizialy supported I do probabily a third-party port for it.

As I understood it, 4.0.1 runs and builds fine on an older Mac OS X (<=10.6), while 4.1.0 won't due to infrastructural changes earlier discussed on this list.

So I expect that, if any, all the next 4.0.x releases (which would come from the 4.0.1 code line) will officially support Mac OS X 10.4-10.6 (and later); while the 4.1.x releases (which will come from the current trunk) will support only 10.7 and later.

If you have patches for the trunk that make it possible to build and run (what will become) OpenOffice 4.1.0 on Mac OS X 10.6 and earlier, they are surely welcome; otherwise, if changes are so complex that are better done in a dedicated port, we can surely list your port.

Another option, probably the most feasible one, is that you maintain a port just applying security patches to 4.0.1. Example: if version 4.1.0 also includes a couple of security patches, you can copy just those patches to the 4.0.1 code, rebuild and distribute it unofficially as a port. So you won't include all the new features in 4.1.0, but just the security patches. This would still be useful to many users.

  Andrea.
