"Perpetual" is a licensing term, perhaps a term not familiar to the average blog reader. When you have a perpetual license it never expires. We've been finding them on Flickr Commons, which generally contains public domain works from various government archives: http://www.flickr.com/commons They are not all U.S. images. We've used good ones from Australia, Norway, Ireland, etc., in the past. But are predominately older, B&W images. Feel free to look around those available images. If you find something more appropriate we use it. In theory we could use some forms of CC images as well, but so far we tried to limit ourselves to images that were permissively licensed. Something I'd like to organize, at some point, is a photo contest, where we can invite contributions of photographs of individuals and groups using AOO. Or maybe at a conference we can even shoot our own stock photos to give us a more modern set of images to work with.
