Vanita,

That is a great question.

When I upgraded my Windows 7 system to Windows 8, I had to uninstall VC++ 2008
and 2010. I have installed the Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows 8, but
have not attempted a build with that configuration and its VC++ command-line
compiler.

There are two sources for VC++ compilers and libraries. The Visual Studio
Express 2012 for Windows 8 is focused on building WinRT and Windows Store and
Windows Phone applications, but it has the command line compiler.

The Visual Studio Express 2012 for Desktop is probably the better choice. It
is intended for conventional desktop applications, such as OpenOffice. It also
has the command line compiler. (Both appear to compile for x64 as well as x86.)

At a minimum, there are probably configuration differences to deal with. Most
dependencies of the OpenOffice build for external tools, including cygwin,
should be satisfiable in Windows 8 the same as for Windows 7 but that needs to
be confirmed. Others here may know more about that.

Hi,

I working the build. I use a mac-mini with OSX. I run Windows 8 on a VM. I do
not see the build steps for Mac or Windows 8. Do you think the Build for
Windows
7 will work on Windows 8?

Thanks,

Vanita
