there is no need at all to "disable" OpenOffice. Just don't use it if you don't like it. It's inactive when you don't use it. And I believe it's just "not that easy" for you because you're not used to it, and it doesn't seem that you want to give it a try. That's a pity. You might want to be a bit more open for new things.

Will, I do not like openoffice. I don't think it is that easy to use and I have 
not taken to it. I like my Word 2003 much better.
I only have openoffice installed on my computer because my instructor suggested 
it for class.

I do not want to uninstall it in case I have another class I need it for, but 
how do I disable it?
