Mobile editing—not OpenOffice on the iPad, but an editor that can save to a format supported by, say, AOO—is quite achievable. I use UX Write on my iPad, though I do use a pre-release version. Peter Kelly, the developer behind UX Write, has graciously given me access to it.
You can get the stable release from the Apple iOS App Store. It's not open source. His latest post* hits on a problem that I came across several years ago, in conversation with Canonical's Ubuntu developers, in London. Peter's work bears a lot of interest. It's nowadays a truism that the future is mobile but it's even more true that there are precious few applications able to view and edit documents on mobile devices. In fact, the very logistics of what should be supported by mobile devices has not really been worked out. So, if I've long argued that there is no need for complete and full support of office suites on a mobile, as that would be impractical, nevertheless, having limited support makes sense. (And more could be added, perhaps, ad hoc, depending on the need and capabilities in play.) -louis * http://blog.uxproductivity.com/2013/03/30/page-layout-in-the-era-of-electronic-publishing/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org
