there is a tricky way to create custom shapes and add commands to
toolbars so that you click the toolbar item, and draw the shape as
usual: http://people.apache.org/~arielch/CustomShapeTutorial.odt

Unfortunately you cannot use this in an extension (AFAIK it's not
possible to replace the hidden gallery theme).

Sure Regina likes the trick :) (I've learn about custom shapes creation
thanks to her).

A nice-to--have would be a way to create non-code extensions that simply
add a custom shape gallery theme, and toolbar items for drawing this
shapes, just by adding a UNO command, like
.uno:CustomShape.some_unique_custom_shape_name, but no code required to
dispatch the command.

By the way, how are you creating your custom shape? There is a service
css.drawing.CustomShapeEngine that looks like a way to implement
a factory for custom shapes.
