Dear Roger,
One more response to what's already been expressed.
I guess you already know that Apache OpenOffice is in fact available
*for* Linux. This is directly available from our download page:
http://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html
along with instructions and tips for installing on Linux:
http://www.openoffice.org/download/common/instructions.html
In your case, I guess I'm thinking the underlying dilemma is that more
than likely AOO is not currently available in the "official" repository
for your distro, whatever it is you're using.
As a Linux person myself, I am hoping that we can make a goal for 2013
to somehow re-engage packagers for some of the major distributions and
correct this. Or, perhaps encourage folks such as yourself to request
this of their Linux provider.
Finally, even you do decide for whatever reason to change operating
systems, please do keep in mind that Apache OpenOffice is available on a
variety of operating systems.

Tks Andrea, just replied to Jani voucing my exact sentiments...what a
shame. A waste of strength, resources, and possibly...leadership. Man's
ego...damned ego. United we stand, divided we fall. I may very well give
up on both and LINUX and go back to mainstream as much as I hate the
thought of it.

Well, I've nothing to add to what I've already written on this: the
Apache OpenOffice side did show willingness to cooperate. But
cooperation needs willingness on both sides.
