I tested both in my own environment and officially demo.
In my environment ,I setup the email smtp parameters, and set mail notification
to Y, only the notification guy can receive the order confirmation and some
other order processing mails, but no gift card activation mails received.
The actual customer, and the gift receiver , didn't get any mails.
In officially demo, I also buy one gift card and send to my other mail, both
mailbox didn't receive any mails yet.
