Hi! I've talked with Peter Roßbach (Apache Tomcat PMC) back on the last JAX and he told me that tomcat7 has a highly improved embedded integration interface.
So why not just hack this freshly (maybe take the names of the old config as long as it makes sense) over at the tomcat project? I've looked at the tomcat7 sources briefly and it really looks like an easy task. Of course, the problems are always in the details - but at least I could not see some showstopper immediately!
