buildnumber-plugin: when using format, buildNumber property gets overwritten

I'm using the buildnumber plugin to retrieve the svn version and put it into
the MANIFEST of the generated jar.
I'd like to put a user presentable date in the MANIFEST as well but the
buildnumber plugin does not offer anything to format the timestamp only. I have
played around using the {{format}} element in conjunction with {{items}} but
looking at the code of BuildMojo I see that it's always the revision ivar
that's overwritten.
