If the resolution is one second, I'd use pthread + sleep to do the job, no
need to use ClutterTimeline. Attached is a quick example. FYI.

Best Regards,
Tonny
#include <stdio.h>
#include <pthread.h>

void *handler (void *argv)
{
    int count = 0;
    while (1) {
        printf("Hello [%d]\n", count++);
        sleep(1);
    }
}

int main (int argc, char *argv[])
{
    pthread_t thread;
    pthread_attr_t attr;

    pthread_attr_init(&attr);

    if (pthread_create(&thread, &attr, handler, NULL) == 0) {
        pthread_join(thread, NULL);
    }

    return 0;
}
