Here is the background on the announcement: Intel announced agreements with government and industry in Taiwan on Oct. 30, 2008 intended to accelerate Taiwan's position as a key center for development of the world's next-generation connected devices and related technologies.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), a Taiwan government agency, and Intel signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly establish a Moblin Enabling Center (MEC), an industry enabling center with engineers and facilities in Taipei. The MEC's goal is to accelerate growth opportunities for Intel and mobile device makers - specifically in the area of Intel(r) Atom(tm) processor based devices. With Intel and MOEA's support, the Moblin Enabling Centre's laboratory and its engineers will train and consult to device and software vendors and develop Moblin compliant drivers for peripheral devices resulting in faster time to market for Moblin-based devices powered by Atom processors. Intel's support of the centre includes engineering talent, software development resources, and software contributions to the moblin.org.
