I also, following Alexandro's example, boldly added myself to the list
of initial committers, if only to indicate my support for the transfer
of OpenOffice.org to the ASF (if my contributions are somehow deemed
insufficient to merit inclusion in the list, my name can always be
removed afterwards :) ).
Although the proposed transfer to the ASF came as a complete surprise,
and the community has had no say in it, I think it's the way to go. My
impression of the ASF is that it is a capable organization with plenty
of experience to handle a project like OpenOffice.org. Being a
vendor-neutral party, transferring the copyrights to it will finally
provide a level playing field. Distribution of OpenOffice.org under the
APL license (if I understand correctly, less strict than, and compatible
with, the LGPL) may make it more interesting for companies alike to get
involved.
I hope we can all work together to get OpenOffice.org on its feet again
and make this a success.
