Hello,
To be honest, I really think that "real" meetings provide the chance to
meet new people "by accident" which usually work in completely different
projects. And I'm sure that the dedicated location (traveling, living in
a hotel, ...) sometimes really helps to get away from the daily routine
which helps to make the whole event more efficient.
+1, absolutely!
I'm absolutely for reducing the overall "emissions", but here I think
the real meeting is the better choice. But, there is one good reason for
having a virtual-only conference: Usually, we would care more about
those who cannot attend a face-to-face meeting. Especially the overall
communication (e.g. blog postings) seemed to be rare with regard to the
last OOoCon. Maybe we find a balanced solution?
+1, -1, +1 :-)
Adding virtual elements to the existing conference is good, but not
replacing the existing one with a virtual conference.
By the way, are there other "environment" criteria which might be added
for the CfL? For example, the overall "fuel consumption" to attend the
conference (based on the knowledge who usually attends), the use of
renewable energy or availability of recycling?
I'm still a bit hesitant. Not many people showed their interest in a
virtual-only conference. Cc'ing d...@marketing if some more people want
that. Otherwise we just might leave out the paragraph...
