If we take our environment (and that of other people and our children and ...) serious, there is the challenge for us: find something better than we used to do.
well, then we also should decide how many servers we need and shut down unnecessary services to help saving power. :-) Sure it makes a difference for the environment, but I'm really not thinking about cancelling OOoCon out of that reason, even if this may sound harsh.
I'm not sure if holding real life meetings is the most important we can do to attract new people. I know some more items that are on the radar... Apart from that: acting responsible could help even more.
To me, it is definitely important. Meeting face to face is the most important thing to do. It helps getting people involved, it helps clarifying problems, and it's good to meet friends and the OOo family every year. Dropping that would be a big loss for us, IMHO.
