OCR tools should be independent from text processing tools. They try to extract text from images, and should be able to export the results in some document format, preferable ODF. It's a processing chain: Some OCR tool generates a document, which then might be viewed/edited/printed via OOo or some other tool. No reason to have such feature in OOo directly. Beside of this/my high level point of view: It would takes many years to get something which is comparable quantity like existing OCR, and you probably stumble in some patent pit falls. There is already an open source OCR project (http://www.gocr.de/), so it's more reasonable to create an extension which integrates their OCR functionality into OOo. It's GPL, so it can't be used in OOo code directly, but that shouldn't hinder somebody to write an extension which makes use of an OCR executable installed by the user somewhere. Malte.
