Hello,

Hi there,

There are (at least) three templates (http://www.vodes.net/rev/Open-Source/OO-Course/OO-Thesis-Template/) available for students who write their thesis/longer papers. How about rewarding the students who use those templates with a T-shirt or another merchandise?

Our foundation can take over the distribution in university cities in Austria, Prague, Stockholm and Ghent/Belgium. We also have "trusted" (but informal) contacts (i.e. students) in various other (primarily) European cities.

Are you serious considering rewarding people for just simply using some arbitrary special purpose template?

I could agree on rewarding people for creating templates which are useful to others just like these ones are. But rewarding people for simply using OOo in just some special purpose context? Seriously where´s the point there? What did they do so great for OOo? Where´s there contribution? How´s what they do more helpful for spreading the word about OOo than any other users use of the product is?

Seriously I would say lets reward the three template creators and seek for others to receive rewards for creating similar useful stuff :-)

And in university context there I could think about other people who deserve rewards more, those that managed to convince someone to install OOo on shared campus network drives or shared campus PCs those that create copies of OOo for other students those that managed to select a topic for their diploma thesis that is somewhat OOo related might they study computer sciene or just analyse some social effects around the OOo community or whatever or what about that guy or girl who managed to convince a professor to give a course on something OOo related etc. etc.

Bye the way: I heard that there is much going on in the OOo education project recently and people do have a lots of new ideas there on how to have better student+university<->OOo Community relationship, watch that space I think if the ideas that have come up there recently or will come up soon will come true there´s much better stuff to be found for rewards than just using templates.

Kind regards,
Bernd Eilers
