-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi Ben, hi Lars, reading Ben's comments I think OOo should think about making campaigns on MySpace and Facebook (and other popular social networking sites). Why not: * create a profile for OOo? * tell the story? * find real users to comment how they use OOo? * have OOo evangelists and fans put the OOo profile in their friends list? * offer cool OOo gear (I know this topic came up recently - may be we can find some clever entrepreneur to produce iPod and cell phone covers, bracelets, jewelery, ringtones, etc.)? * have a contest for essay writing, geek product ideas, etc. * add a free product coupon/voucher pointing to the download site. * like books ... * like blogs ...
Did you hear about the guy trying to elect Firefox as Prom-Queen at his high school? Extending on this idea, does anybody know of a band that sings/writes songs about open source or OOo? That could be a cult. Also, how about a gang of cartoon characters, one for each application that have little adventures (taken from challenges in student lives, writing essays, creating a budget, drawing a business plan, writing that chemical paper with formulas, etc.). For German's something along the lines of the Mainzelmaennchen (Ted, Fredi, ...) but a bit more modern and cool. http://www.zdf.de/ZDFde/inhalt/18/0,1872,2039602,00.html (Same figure, but different colors (given by the OOo-apps) for clothing and different personalities and things they tend to use). Does anybody know some art student class who could design such characters? Enough of the creative juices, back to work.
