I'm sure you would. Might it be because it shows a few inconsistencies in your position? > -the Brazilian and the Portuguese (do Portugal) are more different than > two dialects of the same language... I learnt Canadian English, which is more or less intermediate between US English and British English, and I had a hard time getting used to the UK. It was several months before I was able to talk to shop keepers in town, and I have the advantage of knowing other languages. Someone who only knew American English would have a much harder time than I did. From Alex's description, it doesn't look like the differences between Brazilian and Protuguese Protuguese are greater than those between American and English English. > -I had, some time ago, organized a vote inside the NLC in order to know > how people would feel about the opening of an english NL project. "organized a vote"? When? I remember disorganized discussion on the NLC list, but nothing I would call an organized vote. But supposing that such a vote did occur, wouldn't this prove the point that English is being disenfranchised? We can't have a project that is dedicated to our locality. We can't raise funds locally like other language groups do, and we can't manage our own budget. We can only hope for hand-outs from a German organization.
