The Labs team put OOo 2.0 through it's paces in a three page article
that also looked at StarOffice 8.

Unfortiunately the article doesn't show on the website and won't until
the March issue goes on sale I daresay. However here's an extract of
their conclusions:

....................................................

" Overall we're both surprised and impressed at just how close
OpenOffice is tracking Microsoft here. It has always been a good
alternative to anyone with limited funds or an aversion to the market
leader, but more often than not you'd have to work hard to justify to
an IT department, why they should go down this route. In this latest
release with it's close to seamless recognition of native Microsoft
files and PDF creation, the tables have turned, and it is Microsoft
Office that should require the serious justificationwhere budgets are
concerned.

For personal use there are even fewer reasons to choose Microsoft.
OpenOffice certainly doesn't lack features compared to the market
leader, and most of it's ease-of-use issues stem from peoples
familiarity with Microsoft Office rather than any inherent problem with
the programme itself. As such you should certainly try OpenOffice's
offering before donating another $200 to Microsofts coffers. After all
it's free.

Final Verdict: Our pick of the low cost Office Suites has had a much
needed overhaul and now battles Microsoft in terms of features not just
price.

6 out of 6 Star Rating"
