Twain is for windows. Sane is for *NIX. Macs with OOo are in the latter class.


I believe SANE is also available for Windows. The question is academic really. Provided the hardware uses a standard interface, it matters not whether the host computer uses TWAIN or SANE to get the info.

sorry, but i disagree: it matters a lot. any existing scanner has TWAIN drivers (that is, for Windows), usually provided by the manufacturers, but only part are supported by SANE, and some of those have *partial* support.
for example i'm stuck with one such HP scanner and this is my main reason to keep a dual boot with Windows on my work computer, probably is easy to understand my frustration in this matter.
