Hoss Man updated SOLR-4618:
---------------------------

    Description:
LucidWorks would like to donate the "Apache Solr Reference Guide", maintained
by LucidWorks tech writers, to the Solr community. It was first produced in
2009 as a download-only PDF for Solr 1.4, but since 2011 it has been online at
http://docs.lucidworks.com/display/solr/ and updated for Solr 3.x releases and
for Solr 4.0 and 4.1.

*REVISED:* Since the process took a little while, Cassandra kept maintaining
hte lucid copy of the doc upto and including Solr 4.3. it has now been loaded
into the ASF CWIKI instance, but there are still other aspects of getting this
doc into a maintainable state being tracked in sub-tasks...

I've prepared an XML export from our Confluence installation, which can be
easily imported into the Apache Confluence installation by someone with system
admin rights. The doc has not yet been updated for 4.2, so it covers Solr 4.1
so far. I'll add some additional technical notes about the export itself in a
comment.

Since we use Confluence at LucidWorks, I can also offer assistance getting
Confluence set up, importing this package into it, or any other help needed for
the community to start using this.

Status Update:

The Confluence 5.x upgrade on CWIKI ran into hicups and is still ongoing (see
INFRA-6406), but as part of the initial steps Gavin imported the Solr 4.3 ref
guide. The content is now live and editable, but there are still some
formatting hicups that should be noted (SOLR-4957) but left on hold until the
upgraded is finalized since it will likely affect the formatting and plugin
compatibility.

the upgrade has also (apparently) simplified a lot of the concerns about using
the autoexport plugin and the standalone commenting system -- so we should be
able to just use the built in confluence comments feature.

Committers should go ahead and follow the process in SOLR-4888 to ensure they
have edit permissions for the content, and can proceed with adding/improving
the content in anticipation of formally releasing it for Solr 4.4 -- *BUT* --
as mentioned above, please do not spend a lot of time/energy manually fixing
any formatting problems you encounter, just noted them in SOLR-4957
