Thank you all for the warm welcomes and congratulations! I've been a Lucene "enthusiast" since 2011, when I read Lucene in Action (2nd Edition), and realized that the startup I was working at had a search problem and not a "big data" problem. Knowing some Lucene got me a job at Amazon on a team that owned an internal search platform for use by other Amazon teams. If you've ever searched your past orders on Amazon, that was us. My first Lucene issue was from that time: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCENE-4185. Back then, I wasn't allowed to share even a snippet of code without legal approval, so I described my failing unit test with words. Luckily, things have changed a lot over the years, and I've been able to do a lot more work on open source, both as a maintainer on the OpenSearch project and with occasional contributions to Lucene. I'm looking forward to doing a lot more with Lucene for years to come!
Three interesting facts about me: 1. Despite being an English-speaking Canadian, I speak and understand Romanian pretty well, after living in Romania for 6 years (and being married to a Romanian for over 15 years). 2. I've been teaching myself French cooking, and can make a pretty tasty sauce chasseur. 3. I partially supported myself in university by working as a part-time model. Thanks again!
