Hmm.
For a start, I'd like to revise the structure of encoding and decoding so that
PlanetModel doesn't propagate into the encoder methods. As I play with this I
keep tripping over the dichotomy between encode and decode and all that
entails. Any objection if I submit a structural patch as the first order of
business?
