On this subject, the ticket disregards maven from the very start, but it's
really unclear to me as to why. With the number of projects currently using
maven to build, it's hard for me to understand what is so special about Solr
builds that it wouldn't be possible to use maven efficiently. Can someone
elaborate on the issues that prevents using maven easily?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Tom,

you might find https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCENE-5755 relevant.

Hi,

The default tool to build Solr is ant ( plus ivy), while Maven support is
provided.

Regarding building with Maven, some questions:

1) Is there any difference between the build created by ant and that created by
Maven?
2) Any plan for Solr to use Maven as the default building tool?

Regards,
Tom
