Thanks Dong. One issue that came up is that Gradle dependency resolution no longer works with Java 7 due to a minimum TLS version change in Maven Central. Gradle 4.8.1 solves the issue ( https://github.com/apache/kafka/pull/5263). This means that if someone tries to build from source with Java 7, it won't work unless they have the artifacts in the local cache already. Do you think it makes sense to do RC1 with the Gradle bump to avoid this issue?
