thanks a lot for your interest in contributing to Kafka! If you are new
to the project, I would recommend to pick a JIRA that is labeled as
"newbie" or "beginner".

Adding a complex feature like KAFKA-6989 might be a second step. Of
course, if you feel confident enough to tackle this from the beginning
on, feel free to pick it up.

Note, that adding a feature like this requires to write a KIP:
