I explained in other emails why I think we should not deprecate the old
consumers in 0.10.0.0.

It doesn't sound like there's an established mechanism for deprecation. So,

I don't think we have a good reason to remove the ability of these clients
to connect to Kafka brokers. We do want to remove the classes from the core
JAR at some point though.
