If one sets log.dirs=/path1/kafka,/path2/kafka, the tools fail to run:

kafka-topics --describe --zookeeper localhost/kafka
Error: Could not find or load main class .u1.kafka,

The broker will start, however.  If the tools are run from a machine without 
multiple entries in log.dirs, it works.
