Hi everyone, We're happy to announce that Cruise Control for Apache Kafka has moved to the Linux Foundation.
What this means for Cruise Control Cruise Control is widely used across the Kafka community. Under the Linux Foundation, an open community maintains the project, and it stays open source. The move also gives the project a standard, transparent governance model that anyone can take part in. We want to thank LinkedIn for creating Cruise Control, maintaining it in the open since 2017, and donating it to the community. The Technical Steering Committee (TSC) LinkedIn selected the initial TSC from the project's previously active maintainers and contributors. The TSC is responsible for the technical oversight of the project. Its members are: - Viktor Somogyi-Vass (@viktorsomogyi), Chair - Kyle Liberti (@kyguy), Co-Chair - Adem Efe Gencer (@efeg) - Hao Geng (@CCisGG) - Nick Garvey (@nickgarvey) - Maryan Hratson (@mhratson) - Allen Wang (@allenxwang) - Tamas Barnabas Egyed (@egyedt) - Chia-Ping Tsai (@chia7712) - Krit Petty (@<handle>) - Jiangjie (Becket) Qin (@becketqin) - Omkhar Arasaratnam (@omkhar) - Bertalan Kondrat (@k0b3rIT) - Paolo Patierno (@ppatierno) - Mickael Maison (@mimaison) Short-term plans We plan the first release under the new governance for mid-October 2026. Its goal is a clean, CVE-free release that also validates our new build and release process. This release addresses the most pressing technical debt: - Upgrade to Kafka 4.3 - Upgrade to Jetty 12 - Remove duplicate and conflicting dependency declarations - Fix the remaining critical CVEs - Fix known flaky tests Long-term plans The TSC is now formalizing the longer-term roadmap. Highlights include the following: - Deprecate and remove unused features - Migrate off internal Kafka APIs - Automate dependency management - Improve the REST API - Improve self-healing - Keep up with new Kafka features Get involved To try out Cruise Control or start contributing, visit the Cruise Control GitHub repository: https://github.com/cruise-control-for-kafka/cruise-control To follow the discussion, join the Cruise Control mailing lists: https://lists.cruise-control.io/g/users/subgroups To chat with the community, join the Cruise Control Slack workspace: https://join.slack.com/t/cruise-control-corp/shared_invite/zt-491ndlgpw-M1BOo97QMcYGDoXOvfI1jA Best, The Cruise Control for Apache Kafka TSC
