------------------------------------
Summary: Reject leading and trailing whitespace in Streams custom
assignor names
Key: KAFKA-21213
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-21213
Project: Kafka
Issue Type: Bug
Reporter: sanghyeok An
Assignee: sanghyeok An
Broker-side Streams custom assignor registration and group configuration handle
surrounding whitespace differently.
{{GroupCoordinatorConfig.streamsGroupAssignors()}} uses the name returned by
{{TaskAssignor.name()}} unchanged, while the group configuration
{{streams.assignor.name}} applies {{trim()}} during STRING parsing.
For a custom assignor returning {{{}" regional "{}}}:
* It can be used as the default assignor when registered first and no group
override is set.
* Explicitly setting {{streams.assignor.name=regional}} is rejected because it
does not match the registered name.
* Including the surrounding whitespace in the setting also fails because
parsing removes it.
* GROUP {{DescribeConfigs}} parses the default name as {{{}regional{}}}, so
reapplying the reported value can also fail.
