I included a number of "good housekeeping" fixes in with the GC settings fix here: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-718
I think these should go into 0.8 as they are sloppy, confusing, or in the case of the GC stuff likely to lead to production problems. -Jay
