If you don't have the latest calcite binaries in your maven cache you might run into an error like this when building:
Downloading: http://repository.apache.org/snapshots/org/apache/calcite/calcite-core/0.9.2-incubating-SNAPSHOT/maven-metadata.xml [WARNING] Could not transfer metadata org.apache.calcite:calcite- core:0.9.2-incubating-SNAPSHOT/maven-metadata.xml from/to apache.snapshots ( http://repository.apache.org/snapshots): Failed to transfer file: http://repository.apache.org/snapshots/org/apache/calcite/calcite-core/0.9.2-incubating-SNAPSHOT/maven-metadata.xml. Return code is: 503 , ReasonPhrase:Service Temporarily Unavailable. I've spoken to asfinfra. They are aware of it. The machine ran out of disk space and they are resizing. However, they couldn't give an ETA. Could be "hours". The only workaround I'm aware of in the meantime is to build calcite locally.
