Thejas M Nair commented on HIVE-6758: ------------------------------------- With this change, beeline does not work with the arrow keys. (scroll up/down, right/left). The shell condition in the patch does not identify foreground correctly, and as a result it always sets this env variable. I tried the following on bash in mac and linux. {noformat} $ cat /tmp/t.sh #!/usr/bin/env bash if [[ ! $(ps -o stat= -p $$) =~ + ]]; then echo "background" export HADOOP_CLIENT_OPTS="$HADOOP_CLIENT_OPTS -Djline.terminal=jline.UnsupportedTerminal" fi $ /tmp/t.sh background {noformat} The shell command pasted by Brock works correctly > Beeline doesn't work with -e option when started in background > -------------------------------------------------------------- > > Key: HIVE-6758 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-6758 > Project: Hive > Issue Type: Improvement > Components: CLI > Affects Versions: 0.11.0 > Reporter: Johndee Burks > Assignee: Mohit Sabharwal > Labels: TODOC15 > Fix For: 0.15.0 > > Attachments: HIVE-6758.patch > > > In hive CLI you could easily integrate its use into a script and back ground > the process like this: > hive -e "some query" & > Beeline does not run when you do the same even with the -f switch. -- This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.3.4#6332)
