In the past I have felt like failsafe was poorly implemented. This is shy I chose the approach we currently have. I don't remember the exact details and thus I am open to seeing what hive with failsafe looks like.
FWIW - Hive tests take several days to execute outside of ptest and surefire will almost certainly run out of memory parsing the TEST XML files when run serially.
