Hive tables in the query are hbase tables, and the subquery is a join statement.
When
set hive.optimize.ppd=true;
  and
set hive.auto.convert.join=false;
The query does not return data. 
While hive.optimize.ppd=true and hive.auto.convert.join=true return values 
back. See attached query file.
