I tracked down the version of MurmurHash checked into hadoop itself
http://hadoop.apache.org/docs/r1.1.2/api/org/apache/hadoop/util/hash/MurmurHash.html
With this inlined into the MapJoinKeyBytes, I get
before: http://people.apache.org/~gopalv/mapjoin-flame.svg
after: http://people.apache.org/~gopalv/mapjoin-murumur-flame.svg
