Carl Steinbach commented on HIVE-2424:
--------------------------------------

The downside of the thin jar approach is that the distribution now contains one
more (redundant) JAR file, and developers have to maintain two new build files.
There will also inevitably be questions from users about the differences
between the hive-exec and hive-ql JARs. Using JarJar or Shade avoids these
problems. Is there some reason why it doesn't satisfy your use case?

> The hive exec jar includes exploded thrift, json, and commons lang classes.
> These may conflict with the user's classpath. This could be fixed by jar
> jaring or using shade. A mechanism that allowed a user to substitute
> alternative versions w/o recompiling might be a useful intermediate step
> (though will require the user substitute alternative versions that work w/
> Hive).
