There are issues in HiveEndPoint and related interfaces that are not
sufficiently documented.
# There are no comments on thread safety even though the classes are not
re-entrant.
# The meanings of the different exceptions are not documented, even though the
code returns different exceptions for different conditions and expects calls to
re-act differently.
